A History of the Transformers

Timeline: 2006

This page covers the timeline seen in most of the UK comic stories set after Transformers: The Movie. There is some confusion about precisely which version of events in the Movie is canonical with respect to the comics. There are three versions to choose from, and I have referenced all three. I have chosen to reference the movie and the US miniseries (published as a single special in the UK) together as the differences barely show in terms of plot. However, I have taken flashbacks from the comics as more canonical, and have referenced every one I can find.

2006

Transformers: The Movie / Movie Miniseries #1

Unicron consumes the planet Lithone. Meanwhile, the Autobots plan an assault on Decepticon-held Cybertron using staging posts on its two moons. However, their plans are interrupted when the Decepticons hijack one of their shuttles bound for Autobot City: Earth, and launch a surprise attack. Prime soon arrives with reinforcements, and ends up in a personal battle with Megatron. Both leaders are seriously wounded, but the Decepticons are forced to retreat. Prime hands the Creation Matrix to Ultra Magnus, naming him as new Autobot leader, before dying. Meanwhile, Starscream throws Megatron and several other Decepticons out into space en route to Cybertron. The Decepticons land on Unicron, who transforms Megatron into Galvatron, and the other Decepticons into Cyclonus, Scourge, and the Sweeps. Unicron wants them to seize the Creation Matrix for him.

[The date is given several times in Target: 2006 (UK #78-88).]

Flashback Target: 2006 part 6; Trios (UK #84)

Megatron is beaten by Optimus Prime, thrown into space by Starscream, and recreated by Unicron into the far more powerful Galvatron.

Flashback Target: 2006 part 2 (UK #80)

Unicron transforms the Decepticon called Life Spark into Cyclonus.

Transformers: The Movie / Movie Miniseries #2

Galvatron travels to Cybertron to deal with Starscream, and destroys him during his coronation ceremony Soon afterwards, Unicron destroys one of Cybertron's moons. Galvatron is incensed at this, but orders the Decepticons to Earth to attack the Autobots.

Flashback Target: 2006 epilogue (UK #88)

Galvatron, Cyclonus, and Scourge travel back in time 20 years to build a weapon capable of destroying Unicron the moment they return to their own era. However, Unicron snares the minds of three Autobots - Kup, Hot Rod, and Blurr and transports them to himself. He gives these Autobots knowledge of Galvatron's plans, and sends them back to help sabotage the plans.

[It is never stated when in the movie this takes place. However, the UK letters page claimed that it was immediately after Galvatron ordered the Decepticons to Earth. This is, in fact, the only place where the story can fit.]

Target: 2006 part 6: Trios (UK #84)

Kup, Hot Rod, and Blurr travel back twenty years in time, selecting Shockwave, Frenzy, and Thundercracker as their mass substitutes.

Flashback Target: 2006 epilogue (UK #88)

Unicron disciplines Galvatron for his attempted betrayal by inflicting large amounts of pain.

Transformers: The Movie / Movie Miniseries #2

The Autobots on Earth receive reports of the destruction of Cybertron's moons and transfer to shuttles to help. They are attacked by a Decepticon fleet, but shake them off. However, a shuttle containing Hot Rod, Kup, and the Dinobots is destroyed. Kup, Hot Rod, and Grimlock land on Quintesson, are tried, found innocent, and sentenced to death by Sharkticon. However, they win thanks to the arrival of the other Dinobots. They also get a ship off the planet, courtesy of an Autobot named Wheelie who had been hiding on the planet for some time. On Cybertron, Spike Witwicky and Bumblebee attempt to destroy Unicron using huge quantities of explosives as he consumes Cybertron's second moon. However, Unicron isn't even dented, and the two are sucked into Unicron.

Transformers: The Movie / Movie Miniseries #3

Ultra Magnus' shuttle crash-lands on the planet Junk, where the Autobots are tracked by Galvatron. They seriously damage Magnus, and capture the Matrix. However, thanks to the arrival of Kup, Hot Rod, and the Dinobots the Autobots gain the friendship of the Junkions, who rebuild Magnus and help the Autobots travel to Cybertron, where they can attack Unicron and Galvatron. Meanwhile, Galvatron is unable to open the Matrix and unable to use it as a weapon against Unicron. Unicron transforms to robot mode and eats Galvatron before attacking Cybertron. The Decepticons fight back. When the Autobots arrive on the scene, Unicron blasts one of their ships with his eyebeams, and it falls through his eye. One of the Autobots aboard, Hot Rod, finds himself near Galvatron. The two fight, and Hot Rod reaches out to the Matrix, and opens it. The Matrix transforms him into the more powerful Rodimus Prime. Rodimus throws Galvatron out of Unicron, and the Matrix's power destroys Unicron.

Flashback: Fallen Angel part 1 (UK #101)

Galvatron battles Rodimus Prime inside Unicron. He is hurled through Unicron's 'skin' into space. However, he still has his time-travel trigger. In desperation, he activates it and arrives outside Earth's atmosphere about 20 years ago.
